Looking for a position where you can explore a variety of types of communications, including events and training?  Interested in learning how strategic communications fits into consulting?  REI is creating a new position for a junior communications specialist.  This position needs a strong writer who is flexible, willing to learn new skills and with a knack for problem solving. 

The Junior Communications Specialist will provide expertise in event management while handling coordination of event logistics, monitoring and management of the speakers and program team staff.  He/she will provide writing support for collateral, directly support senior speakers, and support the training team while learning new skills in this area.

Communications and Event Management

  • Coordinate in-house client events including design, planning, logistics, registration, virtual participation, and post-event metrics utilizing a CRM tool.
  • Update and maintain events calendar and track speakers.
  • Coordinate communications repository for multiple stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and support speakers and attendees at multiple national events.
  • Setup and manage booth/handouts at select events.
  • Send marketing emails and manage lists. Analyze data from each mailing and provide reports.


  • Support training team as needed
  • Learn online video training
  • Write short training scripts

Other similar professional duties maybe assigned as needed


Travel Requirements

Out of town travel is expected 10-20% of the time.

Able to create a project timeline, manage the execution of that project, and evaluate the project’s challenges and successes.

Able to communicate upward, downward and outward to appropriate vendors/speakers/stakeholders regarding program changes, timelines and/or updates in a succinct and efficient manner.

Education & Training Requirements/Preferences

Bachelor’s degree required

Agency experience a plus

Experience Requirements

Minimum 5 years in communications


Other Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent written communications are critical. Final applicants can expect a writing/editing test.
  • Must be able to qualify for a Federal contract.
  • Overall knowledge/experience of program event planning including registration, logistics, program development, and audio/visual.
  • Deadline-oriented; multi-tasking is critical to the success of this role.
  • Strong computer skills including demonstrated proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, E-mail Clients.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Knowledge of CRM and assets library tools a plus.
  • Training experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Captivate or similar training software a plus.
